A Frank Discussion with Dr. David F. Pratt

What are your greatest passions in life?

The three greatest passions in my life are my family, the great outdoors, and my work in plastic surgery.

What is your favorite outdoor activity?

Without a doubt, snow skiing is by far my favorite sport. The steeper and deeper, the better! There is nothing comparable to the beauty and peacefulness of the mountains in the winter.

What is it about your Plastic Surgery work that excites you the most?

I get incredible satisfaction as a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon performing any procedure that will help others live a better life. Whether it is sewing up a child’s facial laceration in the emergency room, repairing a badly injured hand, or giving a mom back the opportunity to wear a bikini, I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to make a real difference in people’s lives.

What is your favorite cosmetic surgery to perform?

Although I enjoy just about all of the procedures I perform, I would have to say that abdominoplasty with liposuction of the flanks is such an ideal procedure that I truly enjoy performing it and seeing patients back in follow-up after surgery.

Why do you feel that abdominoplasty is an “ideal procedure”?

An ideal procedure in plastic surgery is one that has the ability to make a dramatic improvement in one’s appearance and activity level, leaves scars that are inconspicuous or easily concealed, and that addresses multiple problems that the patient has. A tummy tuck fulfills all of these criteria. It can certainly make a tremendous difference in the patient’s appearance and often allows one to resume activities and wear garments which had long been abandoned. When I perform this procedure, I limit the incision, and try to avoid carrying it out around the hip and back regions so that my patients can hopefully have the opportunity to wear a bikini again. In fact it is my goal and sincere hope for all my patients to be able to feel comfortable in a two piece bathing suit! The other key to this procedure is the recreation of a natural appearing belly button. A perfectly executed tummy tuck in my opinion is a failure if there is an obvious circular scar around the belly button. Learn about Dr. Pratt’s Bikini Belly Button.

Which of your accomplishments are you the most proud of?

Helping my wife bring up two wonderful children.

What are your hopes for the future?

I hope to utilize my plastic surgical skills on a voluntary basis, either here in the U.S or abroad. There are many wonderful organizations which enable physicians to work in their particular specialty in under served regions around the world.
