Choosing a Plastic Surgeon in Seattle
Also serving Bellevue, Kirkland, & Everett
The decision to have plastic surgery is a big one. And selecting the right Seattle plastic surgeon to meet your needs is the most important part of that decision. Here are some pointers to help you choose the plastic surgeon that is right for you:
Gather information
Collect all the contact information you can about the plastic surgeons in the Seattle area. Use several sources to gather contact information, including the phone, Internet, yellow pages and online search engines.
Research and network
Be sure to ask your friends and family who have undergone any type of plastic surgery who they would recommend. Also ask if they know of anyone else who may be able to recommend a plastic surgeon. Maybe someone had to undergo reconstructive surgery following an accident. If the plastic surgeon provided favorable results during this type of operation, the chances are good that he or she will bring those same skills and expertise to a cosmetic surgery procedure. Also, call hospitals and get recommendations from the staff, in addition to plastic surgery directories and referral lines.
Narrow your list
Now you can probably cut out any of the Seattle plastic surgeons who are not certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Also investigate which schools they attended, and where they performed their residency training. Much of this information can be obtained from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
Form your own opinion
After narrowing your list down to well-trained and qualified surgeons, visit their Web sites to get a general feel of their practice, and to view before and after photographs. After you get a good idea of how the practice represents itself online, call the office to speak to a patient coordinator. Ask questions about the practice and any general questions about the procedures that you were unable to find online.
If before and after photos were not posted on the Internet, you can call and request to see photos, as the practice should have these on file. After the conversation, ask yourself if you felt comfortable talking to this person and if they answered your questions thoroughly. If all went well, ask about coming in for a consultation.
Take time to decide
Spend a few days not thinking about your plastic surgery. Allow all the research you have conducted to sink in. After a several days, even a week, review your notes and consider your experiences with each plastic surgeon. By now, you should be able to make an educated decision regarding your procedure(s).
