Neck Liposuction in Seattle
Also serving Bellevue, Kirkland, & Everett
Not all facial cosmetic surgery procedures are performed simply because aging has taken its toll. For some younger people, the deposits of fat in the front part of the neck and under the chin can be a cause for concern.
Excess fatty deposits in the neck area detract from the appearance of the face and body and can make a person seem older, out of shape, or even overweight. Neck liposuction offers a solution to this common problem which is seen in patients of all ages.
Liposuction can be used to thin out the neck fat and get this area back into proportion with the rest of the body. By gently suctioning the problem area with tiny cannulas, the neck, chin, and jaw line can be redefined. The resulting change in the contours can give you back a strong jaw line, well defined neck, or sculpted chin.
Once fat cells are removed from the body, they do not return. In other words, neck liposuction is a sculpting technique which results in a permanent change in contour. Subsequent weight gain or loss will not significantly change your new proportions. Of course, a healthy diet and lifestyle is prudent following surgery.
Am I a good candidate for Neck Liposuction?
The best candidates for neck liposuction are patients with localized problem areas of neck fat deposits that are out of proportion with the face and surrounding area. The most important factor in determining the success for Bellevue / Seattle neck lift patients is probably the amount of elasticity remaining in the skin around the neck.
If there is any hanging or loose skin preoperatively, proper skin shrinkage is unlikely to occur. In this case, acclaimed Seattle cosmetic surgeon Dr. David Pratt will likely suggest a face lift, which results in tightening of the tissues and removal of any excess neck or face skin.
What can I expect during my consultation with Seattle Neck Liposuction specialist Dr. Pratt?
Once you and Dr. Pratt have had a chance to talk about what you are hoping to achieve with surgery, Dr. Pratt will examine your problem areas you hope to improve and check for excess or stretched, damaged skin.
Finally, you will talk about where Dr. Pratt plans to make the incisions and whether or not you will require a neck lift or face lift for optimal improvement. During your initial consultation with Dr. Pratt you will learn what costs are involved in your treatment and will be given a written price quote. Be sure to discuss your expectations openly and ask as many questions as you need to.
What does preparation for my Neck Liposuction entail?
Prior to your surgery, you will attend your preoperative appointment with Dr. Pratt, at least two weeks prior to your surgery date. At that time, our staff will review your consent forms with you, answer any questions you might have, and the risks and benefits of neck liposuction surgery will be thoroughly reviewed.
Dr. Pratt will give you your prescriptions to be filled prior to your neck liposuction surgery. You will be given a list of medications and supplements to avoid for two weeks before and after your liposuction. If you are a smoker, you will be encouraged to stop smoking at least two weeks prior to your liposuction. You should try not to smoke for at least two weeks following liposuction.
What happens on the day of my Neck Liposuction surgery?
Your liposuction will be performed as an outpatient in Pratt Plastic Surgery Surgicenter in Kirkland WA. You will arrive approximately one hour prior to surgery. Our OR staff will make you comfortable and acquaint you with our preop area.
Your own personal locker will be assigned to you. You will be given a luxurious robe to wear and Dr. Pratt will answer any last minute questions and make the preoperative markings on your body to help guide him during the procedure. Twilight anesthesia is generally used, although general anesthesia is available upon request.
The duration of the procedure depends largely on the size of the area that requires treatment, but usually the procedure will last about two hours. During your surgery, Dr. Pratt will be sure to inject a long acting local anesthetic medication in the operative site in order to add to your post-operative comfort.
How does Dr. Pratt perform Liposuction of the Neck?
Once you are anesthetized, a tiny incision is made underneath the chin, and in some cases just behind each earlobe. Dr. Pratt uses only the tumescent liposuction technique for liposuction of the face and neck.
A medicated solution (tumescence solution) is carefully injected into the tissues of the neck before the tissue is suctioned. The fluid, a mixture of intravenous (saline) salt solution and epinephrine (a drug that contracts blood vessels) facilitates neck fat removal and reduces bleeding during the procedure, and bruising following surgery.
In addition to a reduction in the fat of the neck, the overlying skin will shrink down like shrink wrap due to its inherent elasticity. Upon completion of surgery, you will be wrapped in a gauze dressing and an ace wrap which are removed several days following surgery. No drains are used.
Following the liposuction of your neck, you will recover in quiet, serene postoperative recovery room. You will be given pain medication as needed, and any nausea will be aggressive treated with IV medications.
When you have fully recovered from your anesthesia, you will be offered a soft drink and crackers prior to your discharge home. An overnight stay is not typically required.
